My dear Sir
I have to thank you for your letter of the 8th Augt
1
In M to G. Bentham, 9 August 1868, M mentions sending annotations concerning the first sheets of Bentham (1863-78), vol. 4; is included in the third sheet, pp. 33-37.
— I regret to have overlooked the figures of the two s in your Fragmenta till the sheets were printed off — the fact is the plates did not come at the same time as the text and are not referred to in the text of the Fragmenta so that they did not get entered into our interleaved Pritzel
2
Pritzel (1855).
till too late — as to the plate of the Lithograms omitted that was an oversight — Our set of the Lithograms is not quite complete but I believe we have them now all entered as there is a complete copy at the Linnean Society
Have you had in your set of the clean proofs of the present volume sheet E (p. 49-64)? I find in my set I have 2 copies of sheet E and none of sheet D and am afraid I sent you two of the latter — if so would you the first opportunity return me one — I send the duplicate E. with the sheets now ready
I opened my last letter just as I was posting it to acknowledge the receipt of the box of miscellaneous — I hope next week to have a box packed to return to you and shall then have sent to press the conclusion of the present volume — they are always rather long in printing the index and in the [stitching] etc but I hope the volume will be out by the end of November — I shall then have a few other things to do which will oblige me to pause a little before I commence at the 5th vol.
I find I have overlooked the references to
3
Bidaria erecta ?
& B. leptophylla ( A Gr. and ) I had noted them but forgotten where they were published fancied they were MS names and omitted them as they could not be adopted. I will add a reference to them and to the abovementioned plates.
4
See Bentham (1863-78), vol 4, p. 557.
Besides the sheets now sent and are in type but I have not yet the clean proofs to send and small Personate Orders go to the printers today and tomorrow and that is I believe all I shall get into the volume leaving and to begin the next.
Ever yours sincerely
George Bentham
