Melbourne bot Garden
19/9/68.
In reply to your kind letter of yesterday, dear Mr Fitzgibbon, I beg to inform you,
that Mr Fuller at last responded so far to my request as to getting his boat-shade painted; and so I trust, that he will erect also the small bit of fencing required
to separate his area from the general reserved ground.

See M to E. FitzGibbon, 7 September 1968.
I avail myself of this opportunity to express the great pleasure, which I felt, when
I saw the flight of steps, which is recently constructed at the ground near Spring
Street. I hope some day it will be possible, to form an inexpensive straight path
from thence to the garden ferry, by which means so very many residents of East Melbourne
would be accommodated with readier access to the botanic Garden
With regardful salutation
Ferd von Mueller
