Charles and Reginald Bright, shipping agents, whose firm handled the arrangements for Great Britain.
This consignment continues the , but I have still seven fascicles of capsular left, which the box would not take, though a large one. You have however now all the drupaceous .

I have added again a small parcel with supplemental for Prof Baillon. These were with Suppl. obtained since my last sending. I shall ask Prof Baillon to send not to me but to you back the as you will need them soon.
2
Some held by Baillon were shipped back direct from France to Melbourne but lost off Brazil; see M to G. Bentham, 29 January 1870 (in this edition as 70-01-29a). Accounts of the wreck of the Royal standard appear in the London Times in the week beginning 15 November 1869.
I should however be obliged, if you would work them up soon after arrival, as I am already 1 year without these plants at great inconvenience. J Müller & Baillon having carefully analysed them your review would be an easy & speedy one of these plants.
I return immediately to the coast to regain my strength, if I can & shall take some work with me. Copious notes on I have sent to the press,

Bentham to M, 19 December 1867, and his introduction to the in Bentham (1863-78), vol. 4, p. 143. M also sent to W. Sonder his interpretation of , with which Sonder could not agree (W. Sonder to G. Bentham, 1 February 1868; RBG Kew, GEB1/9 George Bentham Papers, Correspondence, vol. 9, Sabine-Sykes).
but I fear they will not be printed in time for the August mail.
Let me hope that you received Box 32 all right. It was sent in the beginning of this month by the "Sussex" It contained

(Also a fruit specimen of (to be returned) & for Prof Oliver a box with Malachite [& Lasur] &c —.

Oliver wrote on 16 November 1867 (letter not found) to say that the specimens had arrived; see M's annotation against the entry for box 32, RB MSS M44, Notebook recording despatch of plants for Bentham for Flora australiensis, Library, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.
I sent, while so ill, the packages off without revising them anew and working in lately received addenda. However you will find that the species have to be reduced to 7 or 8 (incl. Lysinema pungens) I have to some extent remodelled both capsular & drupaceaous , as regards generic characters, reducing the number of genera much.
I have your acknowledgement of the box 30 by the Great Britain, but not yet of the "Wellesley" Box shipped in the beginning of April = Box 31.

I anticipate the will occupy fully the 4th vol, , Verbenaceae, (Myoporinae) and being large orders & many small ones besides having to be provided for, not to speak of a respectable assemblage of Stylideae. It would be better to keep these plants by themselfes, even if the volume should not be so large as vol II & to reserve all for vol. V, the requiring it half alone, & then Thymeleae, Santalaceae, Euphorbiaceae, all requiring a good deal of room. If providence grants me renewed strenght I will push on once more vigorously the material for you.
Your regardful
Ferd Mueller.
