Sir
In the printed record of the proceedings of the Exhibition Commission of yesterday
I find it stated that the report brought up by the Committee in reference to the projected
atlas was
referred back to
furnish some more practical details as to cost and time of production
.
1
Argus
,
17 July 1866, p. 6.
The report was
not
referred back, but the Committee was simply asked to ascertain the cost of the least
expensive methods and to ascertain what Gentlemen would be willing to take charge
of the editorship of each special map. On these two points an
additional
or supplementary report was requested.
The remarks as they appear in print and for which you are responsible being humiliating
to the Committee and at least to my feelings offensive, I have the honor to request
that you will correct at your earliest convenience the wrong impression which the
printed statement is certain to produce.
Obediently
Ferd. Mueller
J. G. Knight Esq
Secr. to the Exhib Commission
