Sie haben ein so reges menschenfreundliches Interesse der Aufsuchung Leichhardts zugewandt, dass es für mich eine Pflicht wird Sie von Allem was das Unternehmen der Damen betrifft zu unterrichten. Die hehre Königin Britaniens hat Ihre gütigen u gefühlvollen Wünsche der Expedition zugewandt u die munificente Summe von £100 zum Fonde beigetragen. In der königl geograph. Gesellschaft hat es der Ritterliche Sir Rod. Murchison, unterstützt von Viscount Strangford u Mr Hamilton erwirkt, dass £200 - - geliefert werden aus der Gesellschafts casse zur Förderung des Damen-Unternehmens. Mr Hamilton war Präsident der Gesellschaft zur Zeit als Leichhardt die Goldmedaille erhielt. — Für uns hier ist diese Recognition von Seiten der Königin u des grossen geographischen Forums höchst bedeutungsvoll . Die Rückwirkung auf die Regierungen Australiens wird so mächtig sein, dass wir für eine Reihe Jahre eine hinlängliche Finanz-Unterstützung erlangen werden, nicht nur um den ersten Zweck der Aussendung zu erfüllen u das Geschick Leichhardts zu entschleiern, sondern auch um das von dem wohl dahingeschiedenen Forscher bezweckte Unternehmen, den inneren Westen Australiens zu enthüllen, glorreich durchzuführen. Mit einer jährlichen Revenue von nahe zehn Millionen Pf.St. können doch diese Colonial Regierungen in Verein wohl die £1500 per annum erübrigen um die Kartenskizze des colossalen allein britischen Kontinents vollenden zu lassen. Dies soll die 2te Aufgabe des Unternehmens der Damen sein. M'Intyre steht jetzt mit einer neuorganis. Schar nahe dem Flinders Flusse.

You have shown such a lively and benevolent interest in the search for Leichhardt, that I have come to consider it my duty to inform you of everything concerning the ladies' undertaking.

has bestowed her gracious sentiments and wishes on the expedition and contributed the munificent sum of £100 to the fund. In the Royal Geographical Society the gallant Sir Rod. Murchison, supported by Viscount Strangford and Mr Hamilton, has succeeded in having £200 from the Society's funds supplied for the promotion of the ladies' enterprise. Mr Hamilton was President of the Society at the time, when Leichhardt received their gold medal. — This recognition by the Queen and the great Geographical Society is highly significant for us here. The effect on the Governments of Australia will be so mighty, that we will be able to obtain adequate financial support for a number of years, not only to achieve the first aim of sending out the expedition and to discover the fate of Leichhardt, but also gloriously to carry out the purposes of the now probably deceased explorer, to open up the interior of Western Australia. With an annual revenue of nearly 10 million pounds sterling these Colonial Governments should be capable to raise together the £1500 per annum needed to complete the mapping of this colossal all-British continent. That is to be the second task of the ladies' enterprise. M'Intyre
