The Manchester Cotton Association, dear Prof. M'Coy, presented to my establishment a beautiful cotton-gin.

See M to I. Watts, 23 May 1863 (in this edition as 63-05-23a).
Not having as yet any collection of apparatus or machinery nor a place to locate such, I should gladly transfer the gin to the Machinery department of your Museum. If you accept the gift, perhaps you could kindly send for it your cart. It is heavy.
Regardfully yr
Ferd Mueller

On 13 October 1865 E. Heyne wrote 'by Dr Mueller's desire' to F. McCoy to notify him that the cotton gin was being forwarded 'herewith': 'I believe it to be in good working order and I trust you will receive it in the same state' (Unsorted correspondence, Museum of Victoria).
