Ich schulde Ihnen, verehrter Freund, meinen tiefgefühlten Dank für Ihre grossmüthige Freigebigkeit, mit welcher Sie sich wiederum eines werthvollen u. seltnen Werkes beraubten, um es mir zuzuwenden. So besitze ich denn jetzt die Annalen des Wiener Museums und die Decaden vollständig, was ich um so höher anschlage als diese Werke mit so schönen Abhandlungen von Ihnen geziert sind. Jetzt fehlt meiner Bibliothek kaum ein einziges wichtiges Buch, das Pflanzen Australiens behandelt.

Ich hoffe dass die Büchelchen über die Chatham Vegetation u die Moosplatten Sie inzwischen erreichten. In einigen Wochen hoffe ich Ihrer gütigen Annahme den 4t Band der Fragmenta u einen tüchtigen Band Illustrationen von Pflanzen Victorias darbieten zu können, auch wohl gleichzeitig einige trockne Pflanzen, da ich täglich neue Zusendungen aus Nord-ost Australien erwarte.

Ich werde in nächster Zeit mit vorbereitenden Arbeiten für den 4 Band Bentham's beschäftigt sein. Die Ordnung der Compositen wird umsichtige vergleichende Untersuchungen erfordern, um die Grenzen der Gattungen, jetzt nachdem sich die Arten so gehäuft, besser festzustellen. Fortschreitend werden wir später bessere Haltpunkte

Annalen des Wiener Museums der Naturgeschichte , vols. 1-2, Wien, 1836-40. The volumes are in the library, Royal Botanic Gardens Melborne, inscribed by Fenzl: 'Meinem lieben Freund | Hr Ferd. Müller | Fenzl' {to my dear friend Mr Ferd. Mueller, Fenzl].

and the Decades complete,

Endlicher & Fenzl (1839). There are two copies of this work in the library, Royal Botanic Gardens Melborne, but neither has an inscription.

and I esteem this all the more, as these works are adorned by such beautiful papers from you. Now my library no longer lacks even a single important work that treats of Australian plants.

I hope that the small books on the Chatham vegetation and with the moss plates have meanwhile reached you.

In the near future I shall be occupied with prepatory work for Bentham's 4th volume. The arrangement of the will require circumspect comparative examinations to determine the limits of the genera better, now that the species have increased so much in numbers. Progressively we shall later have better criteria [than] in the works of Robert Brown.
