Letter not found. For the text given here, see the report of the meeting of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria, 18 October 1864 (Argus, 20 October 1864, p. 5). The Palermo correspondent is identified from other correspondence that mentions swans for Palermo, for example, M to F. Parlatore, 25 March 1865 (in this edition as 65-03-25b). The letter is dated to August as the last probable date it could have been written to arrive in Melbourne by October.
[Other letters were laid before the council by Dr. Mueller, from his correspondents at Moscow and Palermo, acknowledged having received the black swans and ducks sent by the society from here.]

The letters were returned to M with G. Sprigg to M, 11 May 1864.
