My dear Miss Euphemia.
It was with much regret, that I was prevented to attend on you the other morning,
when you so kindly came to visit the Gardens. I felt really very poorly & though I
was obliged to ride to town on official business in the afternoon of the day, I could
accomplish it only with some difficulty. As I trust to be soon out in the field again,
I may hope to see my strenght renovated.
It is a so much greater source of regret to me, that I was deprived of your visits,
as you intend to proceed so soon to Phillip Island again, and as it may be some time
ere you will visit again the City. Pray let me know, whether there is anything I can
send you, that you would like to take with you from here.
It is strange and singular, that on your visit before the last we missed each other.
I was seated a long while on the bridge & again at the resting place next to it on
the straight walk, but I never went to the lagoon walk, & as you must have been there
before the appointed time, it is not so surprising after all that we did not see each
other.
Mr Heyne says that you appeared well. I trust it is so, for without mental tranquillity
& a firm health all pleasures of this world are but poorly enjoyed.
Believe me, that I cherish the deepest regard for you & that at all times my best
wishes will follow you, and that I am ready to serve you at any time to the best of
my abilities and resources.
Thus I part for the present and remain your sincere friend
Ferd. Mueller.
