The undersigned Chancellor of His Royal Chancellery of Knightly Orders does herewith notify: that His Majesty has most graciously with the highest Rescript of 17 April 1863 deigned to appoint Herr Dr. F. Müller, Director to the Botanic Garden in Melbourne, to a Knight of the Dannebrog Order, 3rd class. —

It is not known who recommended M for the award, but some years earlier Sonder had been urging Johan Lange to promote it; see O. Sonder to J. Lange, 31 August 1860 (in this edition as M60-08-31).
In Melbourne, a brief announcement that M had received this award was published in Germania, 16 July 1863.
