I am very pleased to be able to inform you, that in this evening's meeting of the Royal Society you were unanimously elected an Honorary Member. I had the honour to propose you, and the proposal was seconded by our Honorary Treasurer, Mr Eaton.

See Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of Victoria 6 (1865), p. xxvi. Haast was proposed at the meeting on 20 October 1862 and elected at the following meeting, on 17 November 1862.
