The letter was registered as 4353 and minuted by the Under Treasurer (minute no. 1845):
'There is an a/c payable to Morton payment of which has been stopped – if Dr Mueller
is desirous that some other person should be allowed to claim the money the treasurer
will on being requested to do so direct the amount £14-15 to be credited to the vote
which being done Dr Mueller will be able on obtaining fresh authority from the Chief
Secretary to certify a second account. A. S. Symonds Treasury 18-7-62'. The letter
was referred to the Chief Secretary on 19 July, the returned to Treasury and registered
again on 25 July 1862 with the note 'Chief Secretary Requests Captain Norman may be
permitted to receive an a/c for £12. 15/- due to the gun room mess'.

I have the honor of submitting to you a letter from Lieutenant Handfield, of the "Victoria",
in which he requests, that a sum of £14. 15/-d passed by my office as payable to
Mr Morton for the Gunroom-mess of the "Victoria" may be paid to the order of Commander
Norman, and I beg that you will be pleased to cause, that Lieutenant Handfields request
be complied with
