Letter written by M and list by E. Heyne.
Melbourne botanic Garden,
31. March 62
Sir
I have the honor of submitting to your favorable consideration the proposal, that on behalf of the Government a copy of my work on Victorian plants,
2
B62.03.03.
of which recently a volume has been completed at the Government printing Office may be supplied to certain public institutions and to the principle contributors towards our bot Museum, and I beg to append a list of institutions and donors, to whom the transmission of the work seems to me recommendable.
In granting this concession, the Victorian Government would adopt a course, followed by several other Government, in a limited distribution of works, issued under their auspices. I may thus instance the distribution by the Chilian Government of a work of 24 volumes on natural history and statistics and that of a work on the natural productions and geological features of Java by the Dutch Government.
I would also beg leave to enquire, whether those members of Parliament, who may particularly desire to possess the work could receive permission to obtain it on application to the Gov. Printer.
The whole edition consists of 500 copies.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The honorable the Chief Secretary
