Melbourne bot. & zool Garden,
7. Dec. 1860
My dear Capt. Standish.
I consulted with Mr Ang. M'Millan last night respecting the requirements for our journey
to the Baw Baw Ranges.
We think that it would be advantageous to have
five
horses in addition to those, which are available in my own establishment, and I was
therefore anxious to wait on you to day to solicit your interest in getting them from
your department on loan.

Angus McMillan. See M to F. Standish, 6 December 1860.
Quiet horses accustomed to the tether would be the most advantageous for our purpose,
as we will not be able to secure them throughout the journey otherwise.
I have here the requisite saddles, but I am in want of both tether roaps
& hobbles, & some bridles. As such are probably not available in your department, I will secure them myself
2
ropes?
Whilst thanking you for your friendly offer to aid us, I promise, that nothing shall
be neglected to secure the safety of the horses entrusted to us & that they shall
be returned uninjured to you.

See M to R. Heales, 10 December 1860 and notes thereto.
Very regardfully,
dear Sir,
yours
Ferd Mueller
