1Letter not found. The item is an extract from a letter from O. G Adamson to W. Hooker, 6 September 1858 (RBG Kew, Directors' correspondence, vol. LXX1V, Australian letters 1851-8, letter no. 5). The extract, enclosed in quotation marks, is preceded by 'We have a letter from Frederick, dated Melbourne 13 June/58'. The date of M's letter is inferred from the date Frederick Adamson reported receiving it.

[On 9th inst., I received a letter from Dr Mueller, saying, that he had received a note from John Paisley Esquire, private secretary to Sir Richard MacDonnel, Governor of South Australia, wishing to know my address; this of course is owing to Sir William Hooker's kind recommendation. I shall go to Melbourne this week, to see Mueller.
Mueller wrote, if the allowance from Government had not been curtailed this year, he would have offered me a situation in the Garden: he asked, would you not like to go up to a station where you would have an opportunity of collecting plants also, & I answered, I would above all things.]
