I hear that Mr Baines left for Europe, so that I hope, the trial was for Mr Wilson's
sake not renewed.

J. Wilson was appointed geologist to the North Australian Exploring Expedition but
resigned in June 1856 at the Victoria River. Gregory suspended him from any command
and asked M to take his place. Wilson later made a report making numerous complaints.
Back in Sydney, Wilson was sued for assault by another member of the expedition, the
overseer Phibbs. The case was settled when Wilson was fined £25. See Braddon (1986).
With my respects to Mr Moore, Dr Bennett and Mr Clarke
