Melbourne, 70. Collin Street East,
10 June 1855
Sir
I do myself the honor to inform you, that I shall receive leave of absence from the Victorian Government in order to join, if practicable, the expedition under your command. I shall however be unsupported by our Government during the time.
It is my intention accordingly to present myself at Sydney about a month hereafter, unless my last communications altered your arrangements in my behalf.
Through Sir William Hooker's influence I hope to obtain leave from the Imperial Government to retain a set of those plants gathered during the expedition and to be entrusted with their description and publication.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient and humble servant
Ferd. Mueller,
Gov. Bot. of the Col. Vict.
A. C. Gregory Esq.
