Letter not found. Kirkland was honorary secretary of the Victorian Horticultural Improvement
Society. This letter was read at the committee meeting held on 6 October 1881.

Kirkland had been 'directed to apply to Dr Mueller Government Botanist for the balance of his
works' at the meeting of the Committee held on 8 September 1881.

B80.04.04, B78.06.09. Kirkland was instructed to forward the Committee's thanks to M, and also to apply
to the Chief Secretary as suggested. The Committee resolved to elect M an honorary
member of the Society. The minutes of the committee meeting held on 3 November 1881 recorded that the Chief Secretary had sent the Society M's
