Allow me to remind you, dear Mr. Curtis, that I am eager to send the £50— to Mr Rothschild & the £125 to Herr Fischer for their books as early as these sums are available.
Will you kindly push the accounts so far as you can?

In M to M. Irving, 22 February 1881 (in this edition as 81-02-22a), pursued in M to M. Irving, 27 March 1881, M urged that the books exhibited at the International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1880-1, by the publishers Rothschild (Paris) and Fischer (Cassel) be purchased by the Melbourne Public Library. He also sent a formal proposal to William Stawell, (M to W. Stawell, 9 March 188) who he believed would have become President of the Trustees of the Library (M to M. Irving, 27 March 1881). The offer by Fischer had been declined as too expensive in H. Sheffield to M, 6
April 1881 (in this edition as 81-04-06a), but a reduced purchase price was suggested by the Library and accepted by M after
consultation (M to R. Curtis, 14 April 1881).

Ferd. von Mueller
