My dear Baron von Müeller
I beg you to accept my best thanks for your very kind note of the 18th
undertaking to examine in General Botany. At the next Council Meeting I will have
the pleasure of (formally) submitting your name,
meantime with your sanction so promptly given will insert your name in the Report
now being printed
— you have rightly supposed that your presence at Ballaarat
will not be required at the Examination: there is a
small
Fee, however, for setting and examining Papers

M's letter was registered at the School on 21 February (Register of letters inwards,
Museum, School of Mines and Industries, Ballarat, Victoria), its contents summarized
as 'Consent to examine in botany'.

Council agreed to M's appointment as examiner in botany at its quarterly meeting on
14 April 1881 (Minute book).

M was accordingly listed as the examiner in botany in the School's Annual Report for
1881 (School of Mines, Ballaarat (1882), p. 7), as he had been in the School's Annual
Report for the previous year (School of Mines, Ballaarat (1881), p. 7).
