This evening, dear Sir Redmond, I had a call from the bearer of these lines, Mr Altmann,
who is anxious to be allowed the loan of one of the medals awarded to me and now property
of the technologic Museum, as he wishes to copy from it the picture of her Majesty
for the Exhibition medal in competition.
1
International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1880-1.
I told the young Gentleman, that he must refer to yourself for such permission, as
you are the President of the trustees of the Technologic Museum.

On 25 October 1885 the Superintendent of the Technological Museum, Cosmo Newbery,
minuted: 'This letter was sent to me, and in the absence of Sir Redmond Barry I consulted
with Mr Curtis [i.e. Robert Curtis, Secretary to the Trustees] as the matter was urgent.
We decided to allow Mr Altmann to copy the medal.'
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
