Letter not found. The text given here is from 'An appeal from Baron Ferd. V. Mueller', West Australian (Perth), 30 March 1880, p. 2 (B80.03.10). It is introduced by:
Some little time ago we published a circular from Baron Ferd. V. Muller, in which he expressed a hope that persons in Western Australia who had leisure to do so would help him in his scientific researches. The Baron indicated the manner in which this could be done. The help which he requires would not involve any large amount of exertion, and would we imagine be an occupation which might prove of great interest, more particularly to ladies living in the country. We now publish another letter and a further appeal from the Baron for assistance in his work, which we trust may meet with a ready response.
The previous publication of a circular was in the issue of 20 January 1880, p. 2 (B80.01.04).
DEAR SIR.—Would you kindly re-publish this circular, as it may animate settlers, especially ladies in different places, to collect plants for me, which all will tend to render your resources better known. I am particularly anxious to get algae from any part of your coast, but particularly the shores of the northern districts, which have never yet been searched. Fungi of West Australia are also as yet but very scantily collected. The fleshy kind will dry well when sprinkled with kerosene.
Yours truly,
FERD V. MULLER.
