Letter not found. The text given here is from Ballarat star, 27 April 1875, p. 2.
The report continues: 'The world-wide fame of the lecturer should give a great impetus to the club’s study of such matters. To do honor to the learned gentleman, the mayor and other citizens will meet him on his arrival, show him the local lions, and entertain him at luncheon at Royal Hotel.' An earlier edition if the paper reported that 'it appears to be intended to give Baron von Mueller a very cordial and complimentary reception on the occasion of his forthcoming visit to Ballarat to read a paper before the Farmers’ Club. The City Mayor, Major Smith, M.L.A., will, it seems, be requested to come to the front of the reception committee. Mr Joseph Jones, M.L.A, has, it appears, expressed himself happy to co-operate; and many of the members of the Farmers’ Club, as also a number of influential citizens, are expected to lake part in the proceedings' (Ballarat star, 10 April 1875, p. 2).
