Correspondent is George Bennett, d. 1893. Letter not found. The quotation given here comes from G. Bennett (1872). Iris robinsoniana was described in B71.12.03, proof sheets of which had arrived in London in time for the editors to include details with Bennett's illustrated note in Gardeners' chronicle, 23 March p. 393 (see editor’s addendum to the article). The latest likely date of M's letter is before B71.12.03 was published, so the letter is dated to early December 1871.
[From a letter just received from my friend Dr. von Mueller, I find he proposes, in conjunction with Mr. C. Moore, to dedicate this plant [Iris Robinsoniana] to our future governor, Sir Hercules Robinson ... G. Bennett, M.D. F.L.S.]
