[Mr. Alexander Forrest, the young West Australian explorer, writing to Baron Von Mueller, states that he penetrated eastward from Perth about 600 miles, therefore a long distance beyond Hampton Plains, the former being the remotest region known in that direction. He then travelled south to Israelite Bay on the west side of the great Australian Bight. But little water was found, and the country was arid. Baron Von Mueller thinks that more northerly a more fertile and better watered country will be found.]
