Letter not found. The text given here is from the report of the meeting of the council of the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria held on 21 April 1871, Leader, 22 April 1871, p. 19. Based on the time between despatch from Yohohama in early October 1870 and receipt in late December in Sydney (Sydney morning herald, 31 December 1870, p. 6; Sydney morning herald, 2January 1871, p. 3) the latest plausible date of despatch from Japan is early January 1871, and the letter is dated accordingly.
[Dr. Von Mueller reported that he had received from Japan, by last mail, ova of the oak silkworm (Bombyx Yamamai), but the ova had unfortunately hatched on the way. He stated that he would make an effort to obtain a further supply, as it can be got in Japan after July.]
