W. Odgers to M, 29 September 1870 (in this edition as 70-09-29b), asked whether boys could be placed at the Botanic Garden. In M to J. McCulloch, 30 September 1870 (in this edition as 70-09-30d), M reported that if boys were engaged he could dispense with two men. This letter was referred back to M on 5 October 1870 minuted: 'tools can be purchased when men are discharged'.
