Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 1st instant,
and to state in reference thereto that the license fee payable by Mr Brandon, the
ferry keeper, near the Botanic Garden, having been paid to the 30th proximo it is
not possible to
enforce
his compliance with any new conditions, or to increase the rent of the ferry until
after that date.

In the meantime, however, the attention of the ferry-keeper will be called to your
representation of the dangerous state of the approach to the ferry, and he will be
warned that, unless the approach to the ferry be put by him into and maintained in
a safe state, the license to work the ferry will not be renewed.
