Letter not found. The text given here is taken from 'Correspondence' in a report of the meeting of the Ballarat West Borough Council held on 12 May 1868 (Ballarat star, 13 May 1868, p. 4).
[From Dr Mueller, Melbourne Botanic Gardens, stating that press of business had not enabled him to attend fully to the demand of the council for plants. In addition to the 4000 already supplied, he would be able in a short time to supply the entire quantity required by the council. Moved by Cr Hunt and seconded by Cr Cowan—"That the best thanks of the council be returned to Dr Mueller,

A letter was also received 'from Mr Longley, [Ballarat] Botanical Gardens, stating that he had waited on Dr Mueller, at the Melbourne Botanic Gardens, respecting the supply of plants, and enclosing the result of the interview with regard to the number of plants that could be supplied for the purposes of the council.'
