Allow me, honored and dear Sir, to introduce to you an esteemed friend of mine, Mr
Allan Hughan, who proceeds to your colony with a view of becoming acquainted with
its pastoral aspects. Mr Hughan was for a series of years an occupant of pastoral
territory on the Murray River within this colony,
and might feel inclined to change his domicile with one in West Australia.

On 20 March 1867 Allan Hughan wrote, from Perth, to the Colonial Secretary asking
to be appointed as "Inspector of Sheep" and apologising that his only letter of reference
was from "Dr Mueller of Melbourne" since he had made only a hurried visit to Western
Australia and had not expected such a position to arise [Colonial Secretary's Office
- letters received, acc. 36, vol. 605/37, State Records Office of Western Australia,
Perth).
