Letter not found. See 'A new industry', a report of the meeting of the Tasmanian Exhibition Commissioners on 5 June 1866 at which there was a discussion of the large-scale distillation of the essential oils from blue gum and peppermint leaves (species of Eucalyptus) by the Hobart chemists and druggists, Weaver and Co. (Mercury (Hobart), 6 June 1866, p. 2). Weaver and Co. obtained an 'Honorable Mention' for their exhibits of 'essential oils from Eucalyptus' in Melbourne (Intercolonial Exhibition of Australasia, Melbourne (1867), p. 321).
[Dr. Officer, the chairman, intimated that he had received a letter from Dr. Mueller, the Director of the Melbourne Botanical Gardens upon the subject, informing him that such oils were about to be distilled in Melbourne, and that they were very valuable in Europe.]
