of “Durramboi”’, in the Brisbane courier. Mee is remembering the search for Ludwig Leichhardt by the Ladies’ Leichhardt Search
Expedition in 1865-6. He reports having written to M before the expedition recommending
the services of James Davis (‘Durramboi’), a man who had lived with Aborigines for
14 years. Mee writes: ‘I soon received a reply, couched in the Baron’s characteristically
cordial style’.
