20. Aug 1860
Sir
I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to sanction the transfer of
£50.- .- from the vote for purchase of plants to that of incidental expenses, in order that
the expenses may be met, which will be incurred by a proposed journey to Cape Howe
and by an other to the South Western part of the Australian Alps during this spring
to be performed by myself, as also to enable the Curator of this establishment
to proceed on a botanical mission to Lake Hindmarsh.
1
John Dallachy.
Whilst I beg to solicit for the means of performing the above service in furtherance
of the botanical survey of Victoria, I take the liberty of drawing your Honors attention
to the fact, that in the schedule of estimates prepared by me for 1860,
sufficient provision was made for travelling expenses, but that this particular item
sustained so great a reduction in the passing of the estimates, as to render the performance
of any botanical journeys, without the aid solicited, not possible this season, whilst the first volume of my Flora
can not be completed without a visit to above localities

See M to J. O'Shanassy, 20 July 1859 (in this edition as 59-07-20a) and notes thereto.

Approval for M's request was minuted to this letter, 'Confirmed by the Gov. in Council'.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The honorable the Chief Secretary
