My dear Dr Wilkie
On the noticepaper of the Royal Society I observe, that an additional supply of stores
is to be considered.
1
i.e. for the Burke & Wills exploring expedition.
Having heard, that it is contemplated to have dried beef prepared in Melbourne to
a great amount, I would beg to suggest, that instead of it flour should be taken,
which is the most essential article of food.
It appears to me a pity to carry up to the Darling
meat, which can be obtained at a very cheap rate speedily in any quantity
there
, by killing cattle & drying the meat on the air, for which purpose the weather will
be warm enough there in September.
2
Darling River, NSW.
I intended to have paid you a visit, but can seldom find a spare hour.
